Certain parts of a product experience stand out:
The wheel of the Ipod.
The fold-down back seats of our Ford Expedition.
The 'ball' in the bottom of every Guinness can. (I actually prefer my Guinness out of the tap.)
I would like to add one more 'experience' to the list. The Dairy Queen 'Red Spoon'. Sure, it's not sexy, slick, or glitzy. Dairy Queen will never devote a marketing campaign to its prized utensil.
On a recent trip to Dairy Queen, I noticed the spoon. I remember getting a red spoon from Dairy Queen five years ago, ten years, even two years ago. Some good things should never change.
So what's so special about it? I think it creates an event around your tasty Dairy Queen ice cream treat. Have you ever known anyone who brought home their Dairy Queen treat and replaces the 'red spoon' with real silver spoon. I didn't think so....
The extra-long spoon is specially designed to dig deep in those ice cream treats. You certainly would not want to miss one of those M&M or Heath bar morsels.
So grab the family, find your nearest Dairy Queen, order a tasty treat and revel at the 'red spoon'? The red spoon: helping to make an event out of ice cream treats for years.

DQ's spoons used to be better than they are today! I remember getting Blizzards, and the spoons had little plastic ice cream cones on the ends of the handles. They also used to come in red, green, yellow, and blue. The DQ logo wasn't just recessed into the spoon, it went all the way through. Search "Dairy Queen spoons" on eBay to see some of the older ones!
